Hello! Today’s post is all about those of you who are experiencing issues when weaving. I often receive questions about these issues, so I am rounding up the most asked about issues along with their fixes. Oh and if there is an issue you are having that I did not cover yet, please ask, there are probably a lot of others having the same issue.Faux Warp Fringe | The Weaving LoomIssue – If you want to have a warp fringe on your weave, but the warp strings left are too short.

Fix – I ran into this problem myself, so I created a faux warp fringe, which you can find the steps to here.Fix Waves | The Weaving LoomIssue – If your weave became wavy after taking it off the loom

Fix – This happened to me, my weave was perfect on the loom, but got really wavy once the the warp threads were cut. I shared how I made it less wavy here.Plain Weave Tip |The Weaving LoomIssue – Weave pulls in on the sides un-evenly

Fix – This is an issue most weavers have at first, including myself. I put together an explanation on why it happens and how to help fix it here. How to fix an Overexposed Warp |The Weaving LoomIssue – Warp threads are overexposed

Fix – This is when you wove a different color and didn’t continue your thread over far enough, so you have warp threads showing where you didn’t want them to. I wrote an easy fix, that doesn’t include un-weaving, for that here.Closing Gaps | The Weaving LoomIssue – Gaps in your weave that appear when making shapes or changing colors

Fix – I wrote about two different ways to eliminate gaps in your weaves here. How To Double Warp a Loom | The Weaving LoomIssue – Warp threads spaced too far apart on the loom

Fix – I have a loom that has wide notches, so when the loom is warped, the warp threads are spaced very far apart. I wrote about how to double warp your loom here, allowing for more warp threads and a sturdier weave.Tying Loops to Hang a Weave | The Weaving LoomIssue – You have a loom that allows for you to hang from the warp loops, but when you hang your weave you get weft threads creeping up and looking not so nice.

    Hi Kate,
Thanks so much for all your tips here! I have just started working on a round weave (working straight off a metal ring that i pre wrapped in yarn.) I started doing a soumak weave but am totally confused on where the ends should go on a round loom and also, i am using 4 strands of yarn to do the soumak, how do i tuck the tails in at the back?? Would you be able to do a post on the different stitches for a round loom and how to tuck the tails in? Thanks and i hope this isnt confusing! I love your website and use it as the bulk of my resources in learning to weave xx

Hi Megan, Thank you for your kind words. I think that is a great idea, I’ll have to work on a post for this. But for now I can quickly tell you that when I’m weaving a soumak with a lot of strands, like you are, I tuck the ends in the back similar to how I show it for weaving with roving here https://www.theweavingloom.com/weaving-techniques-how-to-weave-roving/
      I hope this helps!

Wow, this is a wonderful blog posting. I am a total self-taught, rank beginner and your posts have helped me so much in dealing with problems I encountered when doing mixed media weaving with a huge variety of materials. Thank you so much.

    Hi Kate,

Thank you so much for your thorough explanations! I am a beginner and am having issues with my sides tapering in. I see that you mention this above (“Issue: Weave pulls in on the sides unevenly”), but the link for the solution seems to lead to a page about warp showing when you don’t want it to. Would you mind providing me with the link to the solution for the uneven sides issue? I would appreciate it so much!
